Unfortunately the mistake I made was not to check with the BBB before I went. Here is what the BBB states..look for yourself at http://www.dc.bbb.org.
Based on BBB files, this company has an unsatisfactory record with the Bureau due to unanswered complaint(s).
- Number of complaints processed by the BBB
in the last 36 months: 15

Deceitful and conduct unbecoming of gentlemen

When I arrived at Ourisman honda, I had conducted all negotiations with them over the phone and email and had been given what I thought was a final offer.
I had asked them if they had the vehicle in the color and specs I wanted to purchase. They assured me that they had. We went in that evening itself. It's a bit of a drive and we were surpised to find they did NOT have it in stock and would have someone drive it over.
We had arranged financing with our bank and were not prepared to negotiate. My husband and I have very limited time on weekdays and were just trying to complete negotiations as much over email as possible (basically documenting every portion of transactions)
When we sat down to do the paperwork, suddenly a large (we are talking nearly 2K dollars) accessories fee was tacked. Additionally, the salesman left to get a very combative sales manager.
He kept at us stating that if we had driven that far to purchase the van, he was not prepared to let us leave without hearing him out. The last time I got up to leave, he even accosted me verbally over my "rudeness". So I sat down to hear him out...basically it went downhill from there.
Very negative exchange at the end when I finally was able to walk out. This is my first new car purchase (I have always bought used). I was prepared to have manners and not pull my shirtsleeves up to negotiate like a baragain bazaar haggle. That's why there's an "internet" dept with an internet "drive off" quote.
I just wanted to mention that he absolutely made my first visit to a dealer to purchase a car (I had a check in hand in my purse for both my deposit and the full amount of loan) a nightmare and unpleasant evening.
The exchange confirmed the worst that we have come to expect from the sterotypical car salesman in America. Bravo for meeting a very low standard Ourisman. Given the senority of the gentleman who kept at us for an hour( I use the term loosely), I have to assume this is a standard organizational culture at this dealership. Aka...not complete honesty.

The Real Story
|
|
By jack21204 | 6/14/08 at 1:19 PM
I felt compelled to write based on the information this person has provided and my reply will be even shorter than drama and tales of woe this buyer has provided….
Part 1---This consumer claims to have paid $18,976. Edmunds “TMV” (True Market Value) states others are paying $19,117 for the same Honda Civic. You decide who made the better deal.
Part 2---The financing offered by Honda is 1.9%. If your bank is lower than that, please post your bank online here, I need a loan from them. I suspect the 1.9% they offered to help you with was lower than what you could find anywhere.
Part 3---Currently CarMax has a used 2007 Honda EX online. It has 18k miles and is listed for $19,097. If you like, you could have paid them $121 more for a 1 year old car with 18,000+ miles. Feel free. By the way, CarMax does not negotiate.
END OF STORY---A good deal is a frame of mind. If you are happy, you got a great deal and even if a dealership lost money, you will be angry. In this case, the FACTS are incontrovertible. You see the price the consumer claims they paid They typed that price, not me. You can go to Edmunds and look up what others are paying. “TMV” You can go to CarMax online to see what used EX Civics are selling for. Surely the rate of 1.9% available nationwide is lower than what any bank offers. Maybe this is just another dealership trying to discredit the competition. Sounds to me like this person was wearing a mask and his morals are in question. YOU DECIDE!

In order to keep a long story short.
1. I offered to buy a 2008 Civic sedan from them for invoice price.
2. I was told that, if I took delivery of one of the models that they had more that one of in stock, it would be sold to me $500 below invoice.
3. Edmunds and KBB list this car with a total invoice price of $18590 incl freight.
4. The price printed on my sales agreement was $19,450???
5. My wife and I reviewed the agreement and called the sales manager in, big tall black fellow. He told us that there had been a miscommunication between us and that the true invice price included a marketing package???
6. He wanted us to help him pay all of the fees incured by the dealership, a hole list of crap.
7. After speaking with his manager, we agreed on a final price of $18976 that included $400 worth of installed accessories and yes $350 toward their marketing expences.
They tried to sell my undercoating, paint protection and fabric protection. I was told that if I planned to keep the car longer than two years, it might rust and Honda wouldn't cover it!
This person should have read the warranty book, because Honda covers rust for 5 years.
I had my financing pre-approved before going to the dealership, but they ofered to help me find a better rate. As expected, this was an opertunity for them to try and sell me some more crap.
The moral of this story is that Ourisman Honda represents ALL that is bad about the car business and I felt like I needed a shower when I left there. They did everything but try to rob me physically.
I sure wish Carmax sold new Hondas.

I requested an email quote on a 2008 Honda Odyssey from Ourisman Honda of Laurel through Edmunds.com. I received an email quote from Ourisman Internet specialist Ryan Dunn that had a few different charges and discounts listed. At the end of all these, it displayed an “out the door” price of $28,806 for the model with my requested specs.
I responded to the email saying I was confused by some of the info in the previous email and that I wanted confirmation that $28,806 was indeed an “out the door” price for the model I was looking for. Mr. Dunn responded that it was the out the door price and that he had the model and the color that we wanted.
I then sent another email asking how trade in values were determined. Mr Dunn replied that Ourisman was very competitive in this area and right in line with Edmunds or Kelly Blue Book pricing.
Ryan Dunn was not working the day that I went to the dealership but he had arranged for another sales rep and a sales manager to be ready for me to discuss financing and to put a value to my trade in.
These gentlemen informed me that Mr. Dunn had made math mistakes on my quote. The actual out the door price was $30,867. I told them there must be some mistake because I had questioned the price when it was given to me and Mr. dunn had confirmed it.
They also gave my trade-in a value more than $2000 less than either Edmonds or Kelly’s Blue book gave it in “fair” condition with similar mileage.
So now I was being offered a deal over than $4,000 higher than I had been led to believe it would be. Did they mislead me to get me to the dealership or are they just that clueless? My experience is that no one will write down a price to anything without a manager’s approval, so I suspect that it was some kind of bait and switch from the beginning. Don’t despair, I WAS promised 5 free tanks of gas. It should have been 5 tanker trucks full of gas to make up for the time that I wasted with this dealership.
Ourisman Honda of Laurel is the kind of dealership that makes people dread buying a car!
If you do choose to request a quote from these guys, get the name of the sales manager that approved the price with the stock # of the vehicle that it applies and plan on selling your trade-in yourself.
